State Rep. Frye: Technology and Trucking

first_imgGreensburg, In. — Automakers throughout the world are growing the market for electric-powered vehicles. In the past few months, several companies announced plans to develop electric semi-trucks. Living in the Crossroads of America, this innovation is bound to have an impact on Hoosiers. While these electric trucks could be a smart, environmentally friendly innovation, they also present many questions for the future of the trucking industry and what that means for Indiana’s infrastructure.Cummins, Tesla and Daimler, just to name a few, have already developed electric truck prototypes. With Cummins based right here in Indiana, we are presented with the opportunity to watch this new technology emerge. These trucks are unlikely to impact the commercial trucking industry for a few more years, at least. Right now the prototypes are not ready to make long hauls but this is expected to change in the coming years as technology improves. With the development of electric vehicles showing no signs of slowing down, Hoosiers should prepare for this and expect to be sharing the roads with more electric vehicles in the future.Since these electric trucks are still in development, it is unclear how exactly they will run for long distances. The few charging stations already along our highways are not currently suited for these large vehicles. Some will use massive batteries that can be swapped out while others have suggested combining a battery with a diesel-powered generator. The industry may not be ready to jump at the opportunity for electrification right now, but change is coming. Many are already considering possible solutions to the many questions we can expect to face in the future with this technology. As always, please contact me with questions or input at 317-234-3827 or by email at I appreciate hearing from you in order to better represent our district. Football: Burrell set to replace injured Nelson

first_imgFollowing a significant leg injury sustained against the University of South Florida, Scott Nelson will be out for the remainder of the 2019 football season. It is not yet clear the exact injury suffered by Nelson, but he did confirm his absence for the rest of the season on Twitter following the Central Michigan game.Prior to this season-ender, Nelson looked to be a developing talent for a secondary who desperately needed to build experience coming into this season.Football: To fuel 2019 season, Badger secondary looking for consistencyAfter last week’s dive into the units of defensive backs and linebackers, this week the focus is on Coach Paul Read…Nelson served as one of the few consistent faces for the Badger secondary last season as he started eight total games and played as a non-starter in one other.Even as Nelson went on to have a great season in 2018 with 41 total tackles recorded, he struggled to stay healthy throughout the year. Nelson failed to play in games against Illinois, Northwestern, Rutgers and Purdue due to injury.Every Badger fan hopes this is not history repeating itself with the loss of Nelson early in the season. In 2018, injuries were anything but few and far between for defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard’s last line of defense.Football: For Wisconsin secondary, motto has been “next man up”The Wisconsin defensive backfield has been decimated by injuries so far this season, but that has not been a concern Read…Nelson got off to a quick start in the season even as he suffered an injury in their opening game. Even during the limited time that he played against USF, Nelson managed to acquire four solo tackles as well as a pass break-up.Prior to the release of the tweet stating Nelson would not be returning for the rest of the season, Eric Burrell went to work as his replacement against Central Michigan.Burrell certainly has large shoes to fill following the season-long departure of Nelson. But in early games this season he has begun to prove his mettle as much as possible given his allotted playing time up to this point. In the short amount of time Burrell played against USF and Central Michigan, he already managed to record three solo tackles as well as an interception against USF.Football: Five takeaways from week one of Badger FootballThe Wisconsin Badgers started their season Friday night with a statement 49–0 victory against South Florida. In peak Floridian conditions, Read…Nelson will certainly be missed throughout the season as the Badgers are set to face off against higher powered offenses in the near future.Despite this, as long as there is no repeat of last season in which multiple injuries are suffered in succession, Burrell could serve as a fine replacement for Nelson.last_img read more
